Personal Development
Personal Development at Holsworthy Community College supports students in becoming confident, responsible, and well-rounded individuals. Through a curriculum that includes PSHE, citizenship, careers education, and enrichment activities, students explore topics such as wellbeing, relationships, financial literacy, and personal values.
Our curriculum plans for Years 7–11 are designed to help students build resilience, make informed choices, and prepare for life beyond school.
Personal Development (PD) – Inclusive Practice
Inclusive practice in Personal Development helps students engage confidently with social, moral, and personal topics.
Examples of Adapt in Practice in PD Lessons:
· Structured booklets support self-reflection and identify areas of confidence or uncertainty. This also allows students to complete self-checks on their work and their understanding.
· Vocabulary is explicitly taught and revisited.
· Mini whiteboards support low-pressure checks for understanding.
· Teachers model balanced evaluation of different viewpoints.
· Clear routines support respectful discussion of sensitive topics.
· We also ensure that students use classroom and group discussion to develop their viewpoints in order to support their understanding.
