Science
Science at Holsworthy Community College encourages curiosity, investigation, and a deeper understanding of the world around us. Through the study of biology, chemistry, and physics, students develop analytical thinking, practical skills, and scientific literacy. Our curriculum promotes enquiry, experimentation, and real-world application.
Curriculum plans for Years 7–11 support progression in scientific knowledge and prepare students for further study and careers in STEM-related fields.
Science – Inclusive Practice
Inclusive practice in Science helps students access complex scientific ideas through structured learning, clear explanations, and ongoing support. Teachers use ADAPT strategies to promote confidence in both theoretical and practical work.
Examples of Adapt in Practice in Science Lessons:
· Key scientific vocabulary and concepts are explicitly taught and revisited.
· Teachers model worked examples and scientific explanations step by step.
· Understanding is checked regularly using retrieval questions and short tasks.
· Practical activities include frequent check-ins to ensure confidence and accuracy.
· Teachers guide independent work to support application of scientific knowledge.
